INSTALLING THE AMIDA VIEWER

1. Unzip the downoaded file, Viewer-windows.zip

2. After unzipping, you will find 3 files:
* j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe
* Viewer.bat
* Viewer.jar

3. If you do not have a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2 already installed on your system, then start j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe.

Install the JRE in C:\Program Files.
   
If you have installed the JRE elsewhere in your system, you will have to edit Viewer.bat and type the correct path to jawaw.exe.

4. Copy Viewer.bat and Viewer.jar into some directory (e.g. "Viewer") in your system.

If you have copied Viewer.jar in a different directory than Viewer.bat, you will have to edit Viewer.bat and type the correct path to Viewer.jar.

5. You may now create a shortcut to Viewer.bat to the Windows Desktop for easy access.

6. Using the Windows Explorer, set Viewer.bat to open files ending with ".ppr" (MIME type - application/x-paper) and ".sign" (MIME type - application/x-signature). 

This association allows files sent from the Amida Simputer (".ppr", ".sign") to be opened in the Windows Explorer, email programs and web browsers.

This association will not work properly in Windows 98 and earlier versions. However, the Viewer can be opened through the shortcut and the file opened through the menu.
